Hairstyles I'm thinking of for my wedding

I think my dress is pretty classic, and it reminds me of old Hollywood glamour.  I think I'd like to stick to that style with my hair as well.  Here are a few styles I like.

I found this one today on Brooklyn Bride.  The bride's name is Kait and the photos are by Kella MacPhee.  (Her dress is also beautiful, btw.)
I like this hair a lot, though I'm not sure it's really old Hollywood glamour.  It's Serena from Gossip Girl.  There are tiny braids weaved in with the curls.  And my dress is pretty backless so I like the way the headband could hang down my back almost like jewelry.

I'm also a fan of the side swept messy bun (which is a slight variation on the way i way my hair every other day, in a messy ponytail bun.)  Below are Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams who illustrate it perfectly.

I love, love, love this veil (but sadly, the $700 price tag is not in the budget!)  But, a girl can dream!  This veil can be found here.  I'll probably end up making my own veil!

I'm also considering one hairstyle for the ceremony and another for the reception, with something like this headband from Jennifer Behr.  But, chances are, if I do a second hairstyle, I'll be doing it myself and I'm not sure I want to put that pressure on myself!  Because sometimes hair just doesn't do what you want it to do!

Yeah, so it's been awhile...

I've been a crappy blogger thus far.  So, hopefully this post will start to change that.  I'm still on the hunt for a florist.  Though I do have some ideas for centerpieces.  I guess in the latest wedding news..my dress has come in!  People keeping asking me if I'm excited, and honestly, I'm not really.  It came in like 2 months earlier than I was told it would and it was ordered in a size I don't entirely fit in, so I'm refusing to try it on until the end of January which is when I plan to take my bridesmaids for dresses.  In the meantime, I need to lose an inch or two from my waist, which is funny since my waist is the only place I GAIN weight!  I plan to do this with Spinning and weight lifting.  My wish is to be able to buy a Spinner bike after the holidays (hopefully with some Christmas money to help).  My gym has a crappy schedule for Spinning and my membership is up for renewal in January anyway, so I can put that money towards the bike as well.

I never learned how to ride a real bike, so I figure even though this bike isn't cheap, it can be the equivalent of all the bikes I never had!   haha.

Abington Art Center

Last weekend, I went with my mother to see a wedding at Abington, unfortunately, it was a horrible rainy, windy day!  I hope the bride wasn't upset by the weather!

Here are some photos:

Inside the tent
The tent with a little cocktail tent
The tent again
The patio (which hopefully we'll be able to have cocktail hour on with no rain)
The front (which reminds me, I need to ask if there's valet service)

It's starting to sink in...

Planning my wedding is not going to be easy!  I'm currently on the hunt for a florist.  I did get a list from the coordinator at my location, so I have to research them and then call and make appts.  My mom suggested one, but I called and they're on vacation that weekend!  So, they're out!
I'm also planning the Save-the-Dates.  Can you buy strips of magnets the size of a bookmark?

I'm going to update more later when I can add links and photos to make it more interesting!

So far ...

I'm not sure how to start this blog, how to get it to the point of all the wedding blogs I read!  But, I guess I'll start by talking about my wedding and what I know for sure.

We are having our wedding at Abington Art Center.  The money to rent the space goes to the arts programs they offer, which makes me feel good.  The ceremony and reception will both be there.  This presents an issue when it comes to the photos, because I'd prefer that my husband-to-be not see before the ceremony in my dress, but there won't be enough time between the ceremony and reception as they are in the same place, plus I'd like to be at the cocktail hour eating, I'm sure I'll be starving by then (see bride sweating it off).  I guess I'll just have to suck it up and get the photos done before the ceremony, I want to make sure we get good photos.  Our photographer is Alyssa Maloof and I love her!  She's more artistic than traditional, which I think is more our style.  We've also chosen our caterer, Culinary Design Associates.  They were one of the three Abington Art Center gave us to choose from.  Our menu will be made up of comfort, my grandmother would/could make and we'll be doing stations.  Our families aren't really fancy and stations just seemed right for us, and even better than buffet because there will be 3 lines as opposed to one long one!  The last thing we have so far is the dj, which will be my stepdad's brother.  As far as I know he doesn't have a website.  Ohhhhh, and I almost forgot...I've ordered my dress...but that's a secret!

I was feeling good about this lead, but now the wedding is LESS than a year away, so it's time to get more done.

We still need to:

order flowers
find someone to marry us
design invitations
order bridesmaid dresses
choose what all the men will wear and order it
favors
centerpieces

and I'm sure the list will get longer as I remember stuff!

One Year Today

I thought it fitting to start this blog on October 3, 2008 exactly a year away from my wedding!  I'm starting this blog to help me plan my wedding and maybe be a resource for other brides planning their weddings.

Oh, I guess it's technically after midnight...but we'll pretend...

More to come...it's late and I have to go cuddle!
